WIND NEWS - CHILE

Goldwind på fremmarch i Chile

Glodwind gets 34.5 MW from Mainstream project

Goldwind (Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd.) announced that it has entered into an agreement with Mainstream to provide the Negrete project (Phase I) located about 12 km from Los Angeles city in central Chile with 23 units of its GW87/1500 low wind-speed PMDD turbines.

With a 87 m rotor diameter and 1500kW rated capacity, this wind turbine was designed and developed to target low wind speed conditions with an average wind speed of 6m/s to 8m/s. The turbine generates 5% more electricity than those with an 82 m rotor diameter.

This is Goldwind's second order from South America after agreed to supply wind turbines and lead construction and commissioning activities as a "one-stop shop" service portfolio for a high-altitude wind farm project in Ecuador.

115 MW wind farm to begin construction

Pattern Energy Group LP (Pattern) announced it has signed 20-year renewable power sale and energy services agreements for its El Arrayan Wind project in Chile. The agreements were completed with Minera Los Pelambres, a mining company controlled by Antofagasta plc, whose mining division Antofagasta Minerals S.A. (AMSA) will also have an option to acquire a 30% stake in the project.

The 115 MW El Arrayan project, being developed by Pattern, is located approximately 400 km north of Santiago on the coast of Chile. Once completed, the El Arrayan wind farm will be Chile's largest wind energy project.

The El Arrayan wind power project is expected to begin construction in early 2012 and achieve commercial operation in the second half of 2013. Siemens will provide its 2.3MW wind turbines. Skanska will perform the balance of plant construction for the project. The project has secured all land leases required for the wind turbines and transmission line.

Chile is an investment-grade country with a very attractive power market and growing demand for electricity, with goal of generating 20% of its energy from non-conventional renewable sources by 2020.

One more project securing first steps

Enel Green Power has been granted a concession of approximately 2,600 hectares of land by the Chilean Ministry of National Assets for the development of a 99 Mw wind farm. The land, located in the country's Taltal district is located 1,550 kilometres north of Santiago, Chile.

Although feasibility studies and an environmental impact assessment remain to be done, the current plant calls for the installation of 33 wind turbines on the site. If that plan comes to fruition, Enel Green Power said the Taltal wind farm would generate 329 million kWh per year.

Once up and running, the wind farm will deliver its energy to the SIC -Central Grid- transmission system through the Paposo substation, about 60 km away from the plant.
