The town of Klaksvik, Faroe Islands will host this international fair Atlantic Fair for the eighth time in 2017. The focus will be on the on fishing and maritime industries. The main purpose of the exhibition is to showcase and share knowledge about the industry as well as presenting the latest new technology within the industry with the aim of ensuring sustainable and efficient solutions that have long-term economic viability.
The Faroese fishing industry and aquaculture industry represents 97% of the exports of the Faroe Island and they are therefore economic drivers in the Faroe Islands.
Several aspects makes the Faroe Islands and the region an interesting for suppliers of fishing equipment as well as suppliers of equipment for fish & seafood production and processing. During the last 4-5 years the Faroe Islands has experienced a growth of close to 20% within the fish and seafood production. The shift to new species within the pelagic fishery such as mackerel and herring has on its own assured a doubling of the pelagic fishery output to 400.000 tons/year. The pelagic fishery furthermore still represents more than 60% of the total fish production on the Faroe Islands.
Another interesting market feature is the focus on sustainable and efficient solutions for the fishing industry to assure a long-term economic viability and competitive advantage for the sector in the Faroe Islands. The fishing industry and the related fish processing industry is thus on the constant out-look for new know-how and technology to assure a sector which will be kept up to date and competitive as key to continued growth and modernization.

177 companies from 19 different countries exhibited at Atlantic Fair 2015 and 3,850 people visited the exhibition. The organizers have put much emphasize in promoting the exhibition to an international audience, which in 2015 resulted in 15% of the trade visitors were from abroad representing 23 different nationalities.
