The Norwegian fishing industry - in brief

The Norwegian fishing industry is a cornerstone of the country's economy, generating close to 100 billion NOK Norway has set a long-term export target of 550 billion NOK for farmed and processed fish by 2050. This ambitous goal requires significant development, particularly in fish farming and fish processing, and will require substantial investments. Investments are currently challenged by ongoing discussions on taxation of the industry.

There is a strong focus on optimizing the fish processing industry as well as expanding the aquaculture sector. In recent years, numerous new land-based aquaculture facilities have been announced in Norway, marking a significant shift from the predominant sea-based fish farming practices.

The fisheries sector in Norway also strongly focuses on minimizing its environmental footprint by adopting sustainable solutions. The goal is to transform the fishing fleet into a more environmentally friendly and energy-efficient fleet, an area where Danish companies possess strong expertise to offer.

The overall development of the Norwegian fishing industry calls for new and innovative technologies, creating opportunities for Danish companies to introduce their innovative solutions and groundbreaking technology.
