The fishing industry in Iceland

The fishing industry is one of the main pillars of the Icelandic economy. Fish and seafood products represent an important share of the country's total exports. Through continuos focus on development and innovation of the entire value chain of the fishing industry, Iceland has managed to create one of the world's most modern and competitive seafood industries.

The commercial fishing fleet in Iceland has a constant focus on updating and modernizing the fleet. Ship owners prove willingness to invest in innovation to meet the ever increasing demands for energy and cost-effective technology and sustainable solutions and the Icelandic fleet is characterized by being one of the most sophisticated, modern and efficient fleets in the world.

Iceland possesses a fleet of close to 1,600 registered fishing vessels. Both the Icelandic fishing fleet and related processing industry facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and equipment and are very open minded towards innovative solutions and technology.

Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition have in recent years also had an increased focus on utilization of fish by-products for value adding products as well as on the aquaculture industry. The aquaculture industry is a booming industry in Iceland, with a production which has multiplied in recent years with a production of 51,000 tons in 2022, where farmed salmon represent 90% of the total production. The aquaculture sector has witnessed strong investments in recent years and several important projects with land-based aquaculture facilities have been initiated or are in the pipeline with focus on using Icelands natural ressources. 

Danish suppliers have a wide range of strong technology, solutions and equipment to offer to contribute to obtain improved efficiency and value-adding within the entire fishing industry value chain. and Icelandic Fisheries, Seafood and Aqua Exhibition offer an ideal platform for Danish companies to showcase their solutions and technology to decision makers and stakeholder from the industry in Iceland and the rest of the North Atlantic region.

Danish Export - Fish Tech will organize a Pavilion of Denmark at Icelandic Fisheries, Seafood and Aqua Exhibition 2024 to support more Danish companies in exploring the potential and opportunities that exists in the fisheries, fish processing and aquaculture industries in Iceland and the North Atlantic region in general.

Join the Pavilion of Denmark at Icelandic Fisheries, Seafood and Aqua Exhibition and showcase your company to an Icelandic audience. We will handle a lot of the practicalities prior to and during the exhibition, so you can focus on networking, dialogue with customers and exploring new opportunities in Iceland's fisheries and aquaculture industries. 

This event is subsidised by The Trade Council. To participate with subsidy, your company must be eligible to receive subsidies based on the de-minimis-rules and regulations from the Trade Council.

The de minimis-enactment means that a company can receive public subsidies of maximum EUR 300,000 within a period of three financial years. To receive subsidies, companies must be registered with a Danish VAT-number and complete a business form.
